Candidates who completed their secondary education abroad must undergo the procedure for the recognition of foreign education.

Foreign nationals of countries that are not members of the European Union may study at schools under the same conditions as citizens of the Republic of Slovenia if the principle of reciprocity applies, if they have completed their secondary education in the Republic of Slovenia and passed the Matura examination, or if they have permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia and they themselves, or at least one of their parents or their guardian, are residents of the Republic of Slovenia for tax purposes, in accordance with the law governing personal income tax, by the beginning of the selection procedure.

You are eligible to apply if you have successfully completed, or will complete this year, one of the following:

  • a four-year upper secondary school programme,
  • an upper secondary school programme following the 3+2 model, or
  • a five-year upper secondary school programme.

Admission therefore requires a General Matura or a Vocational Matura.

You may also apply if you have passed a Master Craftsman, Foreman, or Business Manager examination, provided that you have:

  • at least three years of relevant work experience, and
  • passed an entrance examination in Slovene (or Italian or Hungarian in nationally mixed areas) and Mathematics or a foreign language.

To enroll to Slovenian HVC, candidates with foreign educational diplomas must undergo an education recognition process. This process formally assesses your education obtained abroad and determines its equivalence in accordance with Slovenian legislation, enabling you to continue your education in your chosen program. The recognition process follows the Act on the Evaluation and Recognition of Education and ensures that candidates meet the requirements for application, enrollment, and participation in educational programs in Slovenia.

If you have already been enrolled for three years in a professional higher education or university study programme, you are not eligible to enrol in a full-time higher vocational study programme.

In this case, you may enrol in a part-time higher vocational study programme. Part-time study also includes modern distance learning options, offered by many higher vocational colleges.

Applications for admission to higher vocational colleges can be submitted:

from 18 February to 18 March 2026, and
from 21 August to 27 August 2026,

via the online application system available on the website of the Higher Vocational Admissions Office.

The electronic application form in eVŠ usually serves as the recognition application for foreign education.
